Researcher Vivian
- BIRTH: 22 Mar 1786
- PARENTS: John DAKE (d. 1790) and
Susanna POWERS. Also has a folder on Calvin DIKE. There is
some speculation that he may be Nabby DIKE's father.
- MARRIAGE: 9 Mar 1813 to Thomas BRADLEY
Sr. Resided in Braintree.
- CHILDREN:
- DEATH: 18 Jan 1856 - South Amherst,
Lorain County, Ohio
- BURIAL: 20 Jan 1856 - South Amherst,
Lorain County, Ohio
- NOTES: Thomas BRADLEY
married Nabby DIKE (misspelling?) on March 9, 1813 in Woodstock, VT.
Their residence was Braintree. Regarding Nabby DIKE.
Nabby was a diminutive for Abigail back then. The staff at
the Vermont records indicate that misspelling was quite common. Abigail
DAKE was born to Susanna POWERS and John DAKE on March 22, 1786.
John DAKE died in 1790 unfortunately only one page of his probate
proceeding was left.
Researcher Annita
- BIRTH: 1788
- MARRIAGE: (no date) to Thomas BRADLEY
- CHILDREN: Monroe b 1816, Rosila b 1819,
Hiram b 1821, Julia b 1827 & Wm Henry Harrison Dudley b 1840
- DEATH:
- BURIAL:
- NOTES: My information
begins with Thomas BRADLEY (not listed as Jr or Sr) born 1780 married
to Abigail DAKE born 1788. I have that Thomas died in 1876 and is buried
in Blissfield, MI (Leanwee County).
Evidence Presented:
- Transcribed letter dated 27 Jan 1856 from Henry
BRADLEY (b. 1840) to his brother and sister regarding his mother's
death. Letter states that "She died the 18th and was buried
the 20th... She died about 4 o'clock in the afternoon She began
to chock about 10 in the morning and chocked to death."
- Marriage License for Thomas BRADLEY and Nabby DIKE in
Woodstock, Vermont, March 9, 1813.
- Birth record for Abigail DAKE in Vermont.
- Verification that Abigail DAKE WORTHING is buried in
Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, MI next to her husband Winthrop Worthing
by Researcher Mike.
Theories:
- Theories for Abigail & Nabby being different
persons:
- Different spellings
- Different fathers
- 2 researchers show a marriage to Winthrop
WORTHING
- 2 different death dates
- 2 different burial places (one confirmed)
- Theories for Abigail & Nabby being the same
person:
- Misspellings were common
- Calvin DIKE might be a "dead end"
Abigail could have married Winthrop WORTHING,
had a son Benjamin, became divorced or widowed, and married
Thomas BRADLEY. Abigail DAKE WORTHING is buried next
to Winthrop WORTHING in Franklin, MI. The divorced and
remarried theory is dead.
To Do List:
- Check South Amherst, Ohio for cemeteries.
Search for Abigail's tombstone and/or cemetery record.
- According to Annita's sources, there are 5
cemeteries in the area. The one in S. Amherst is on S Lake St. did
not know the name; Crown Hill on Crown Hill off of S Main in
Amherst; another on Cleveland St. in Amherst; a Catholic Cemetery
on Pyle South Amherst Rd; and Kendeigh (unsure of the spelling) on
Quarry Rd.
