Sophie M. Sopata

My Grandmother, Sophie M. Sopata (Sekula) passed away on Friday morning, December 8th, 2000. She died at Richmond Heights University Hospital. Sophie went peacefully, and according to the doctors, she was not feeling any pain. Sophie was 88 years old.

Sophie was born on May 25th, 1912 in Cleveland, Ohio to Michal Sekula and Katarzyna Sekula (Kornatowski). She was one of four children, the others being Katherine A. Kowalczyk (1910-1989), Helen Cass and Henry Richard (1918-1976).  She married John Frank Sopata on November 28, 1935. They had five children, John Allen (1936-1937), Robert Bernard, Sandra Joan, Michael (1946-1987) and Eugene Charles (1949-1998). John and Sophie were together for 56 years, apart only by the death of John on June 12th, 1992. Now, John and Sophie can be together once again.

Sophie is survived by her sister Helen Cass, her brother-in-law Walter Sopata, her children Robert Bernard and Sandra Joan, her seven grandchildren Deborah Ann, Brian Keith, Scott Vincent, Christopher Allan, Tamra Lynne, Craig Patrick and Jeffrey Jonathan; and of course her five loving great grandchildren Laura Leigh, Sierra Nicole, Makaylah Wynter, Jonathan Donald and Brendan David.

Visitation will be at the Rybicki & Son Funeral Home, 4640 Turney Road, Garfield Heights, Ohio, on Monday, December 11th, from 2:00 until 4:00 pm, and again from 7:00 until 9:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Church, 24821 Columbus Road, Bedford Heights, Ohio on Tuesday, December 12th at 9:30 am. A Catholic Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery, 480 West Highland Road, Northfield, Ohio. Maps to each location can be found by following the links below:
